It’s been talked about for quite along time, I’ve mulled over it for endless months and years thinking about what the hell I should do. I’ve always wanted to try my hand at making a movie (more so a short web series) and combined with our ridiculousness I’ve decided to try and incorporate that into my first crack at a short film.

I don’t know how well this is going to turn out, being the first crack at it and especially trying to do it solo (unless you other plugs help) but I’ve already begun preparation and got some ideas for the first episode which I suppose is a start. The good news is despite all the drunk video captured this past weekend I managed to grab a lot of footage on how some of us manage in what’s becoming a lengthy offseason.

I suppose I shouldn’t complain, hockey season is right around the corner and the last moments of sun are upon us it seems. Here’s to hopefully having some solid final weekends on the course, at the lake, on the trails, in the backyard, before the real fun begins.

Be sure to keep coming back, got a lot of good stuff coming in the next week or so. As well give us a follow on our Twitter Account or feel free to follow us individually (walkities, Stilly, Lips, Big Show, Zims, Shelly, Whiskey, Seal).

As well feel free to join us on our slowly improving Facebook fan Page, got some good things popping up on there shortly as well.

Forgive my Spanish heritage, I’ve just spent to much time (5 minutes) at Mucho Burrito in Grande Prairie which to me was mucho gross and could easily be the culprit to someones mucho diarrhea. It’s been a long week and like the title suggests I am mucho tired, I’ll be the first to tell anyone that I don’t think working, playing hockey, and coaching hockey would have kept me this busy but I haven’t even had time to watch whats been going on both the NFL and NHL seasons…which in my life is oddly spectacular.

This past week has been an absolute whirlwind and complete overload of hockey. Coaching Blades practices on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday along with stopping pucks for the Hythe Mustangs on Wednesday and Friday all built into Lips and I’s debut behind the bench for the Blades on Saturday night. Needless to say it was an eye opening experience. As a fan and player of hundreds of games it’s extremely easy to criticize what goes on the ice. The game of hockey seems so simple to the average fan which is precisely why you have thousands of supposed experts screaming at Oilers games to “shoooooooooooot” on the powerplay. Once you actually sit down, watch, and try to strategize your opponent do you realize that game is almost entirely mental. Needless to say I have a new found respect for those coaches that receive high praise and until you sit behind a bench and partake in all the chaos that the game of hockey involves you have no say to bash any professional (or amateur) coach on the job he does.

The result we had wasnt what we wanted losing and while the score was 8 to 4 it’s a complete fabrication of how the actual game went (like most scores are). Unfortunately for us the wheels just came off on a bad penalty and before you knew it the game was over. Thankfully it’s nice to get the first game out of the way to look forward and better prepare ourselves for the next game.

Thankfully Sunday involved a day off which allowed me to catch up on some sleep and more importantly spend some glory time watching NFL football. I figured today might be the best opportunity to get a blog in about where the hell I’ve been, even some of my friends have been wondering if I moved back to Edmonton because I haven’t been spotted out and about cruising the night scene (let’s face it, there isn’t a night scene in Grande Prairie to begin with).

It’s been a fairly relaxing Sunday spent mostly on the couch and at the Coke Centre. Had to get outside at some point today considering in the next couple of days we will probably see snow which will effect my mood swings immensely. However tomorrow night it starts all over again with Blades Monday, Mustangs Tuesday, etc etc all leading up to this Friday and Saturday when we have our next two home games. Till then though Hotstickybun will be a quiet place until uncle Zim shares his thoughts on how much Grande Prairie sucks and how much Boston rules.

Finally in case I dont get a chance to update I will say that all you bums sitting at home this weekend should come on down to the Beaverlodge Arena Friday and Saturday night at 8:00 p.m, fill the stands and cheer us on…

I wont be the first to say we should have a good thing going on this winter and hopefully we can provide the results this season to prove it.

It’s been along time coming and frankly I’ll need something to keep me occupied this spring as once again the Oilers aren’t going to make the playoffs. But hey, no use crying about it, after all we finished right where we normally do…on the outside looking in. Heaven forbid we be either good enough to secure a playoff spot before the final week of the season or at the least really really bad so we can draft the next coming of Gretzky. Eight years of this with one “lucky” (but glorious) cup run and it’s no wonder why my head is going to explode with the idiocy of this organization.

Alas enough about hockey, I spend to much time talking about it already. Onto more pressing issues, like where the hell I’ve been, why the Bun hadn’t been updated in months, and just what the hell happened to the old site.

The Old Site

First and foremost the old site is gone, retired to the recycle bin. I tried the experiment of having more then one writer on here but figured it was only a matter of time before that fade phased out. Everyone comes here to look at pictures, admire the videos, and read my glorious rambles. While I give the other two credit I probably knew it wouldn’t last to long, after all I haven’t wrote anything since I left to go play hockey in Hythe. Fortunately for those other two yahoos who started to contribute I’ve left them on for the time being, just in case they end up seeing the light and realizing how orgasmic writing for hotstickybun can be or someone else out there in cyber land steps up and wants to feel a part of the fame and glory I do everyday from running this magnificent website.

The biggest change is how I handled the videos. With everyone in there right mind having a digital camera or camcorder I’ve made my life a little easier uploading and editing the video, what’s even better is it is currently set up to allow other users access so they can contribute to the video section. Obviously I’m not out of my mind enough to just allow anyone to upload so if you got some good old fashioned blackmailing evidence you’d like the people to see swing by my contact page and I’ll hook you up with access.

The only other major differences are the design, an added “sticky picks” section, and some background information on my disgusting video game habit.

So what took so long to update?

Suffice to say I’ve actually been occasionally busy. With the last thing I wrote I was summoned into duty to play goal for the first time in six years and that drove me north to Hythe for about a month. Needless to say I had a great time even though Im pretty sure I messed up my knee to the point where its starting to hurt when I walk. Maybe I should go to the doctor.

After the brief conditioning stint in Hythe I flew south to Phoenix for spring break with Moeee and Precious even though some douche bag customs agent just about prevented me from getting into the country. I don’t know what it is, I’d like to think I’m not suspicious looking but every time I cross the border I’m questioned and cavity searched a lot more then anyone else.

In Phoenix there was golf, there was hiking, there was Oilers hockey, but I’m sure you all get the point by now because I’ve talked about my travels down there more then enough on here.

So what now Walks?

Good question. I’ve been back in Edmonton since towards the end of February. Not surprisingly I’ve been parked at the computer since being here touching up on some of my latest projects, most notably Reo King, Target Rubber, and In the Loop.

In that same stretch I’ve managed to update my portfolio website, better known as Phrost Designs, as well as what you see here at hotstickybun. I’ve also had a lot of leads on other jobs but it seems a lot of people in this area don’t understand the amount of time that’s put into stuff like this and don’t want to pay the price for having a solid website done. If you’re one of those people I will tell you flat out that when you cheap out you get exactly what you pay for in terms of functionality, looks, and usability.

I’ve got one more website to finish for Maverick Camouflage before I’m all caught up which turns out is a good thing as I got a lot on my plate potentially this summer. While I tried to keep it somewhat low key to begin with I think most people know by now that I’m leaning towards moving home (*shudders). Needless to say I’ve got cold feet about the whole situation and this summer should help me get a better idea on just what it is I’m going to do.

Until Then

Spring is here and golf season is just around the corner. The season should be a good one as J-bone is set to move in with me in a week or so which should result in another interesting couple of months. Oh and did I mention I have a couple cases of Bud Light Lime for patio season? I know some of you are thinking it’s sissy beer and if that’s the case you don’t get any!

With that said things should be a little more energetic around here in the next week (and coming weeks for that matter), I have a bunch of videos on my computer that probably need to be screened before an upload takes place.

Till next time.
