Originally started as nothing more then a hobby to play around with css, flash, and of course photoshop Hotstickybun has been around for around 4 or 5 years, to tell you the truth I don’t even know…apparently I’ve killed one two many brain cells with alcohol abuse.
The Penetration
I vaguely remember why I decided to create this site, what I do remember is it was created back before the wide spread birth of social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace . I guess the original inception was to put a website up to provide a place to show all my pictures and anything else I found interesting.
Hotstickybun Hits Puberty
Eventually the site started to grow. At one point I was fortunate enough to have people other then me writing blogs. Of course we had my video game review but that was also accompanied by Trav’s rant on what’s wrong with the world, hell people I rarely to still talk about his rant on Grande Prairie fatties wearing belly shirts. Throw in some “Trop Tens” by Jmoe here and there and it’s no wonder why this website was such a huge success back in the day (even if it was just us viewing it).
The Last Couple Years
Since dropping Trav and Jmoe for brighter pastures I’ve more or less used Hotstickybun as my guinea pig with experiments on different types of open source software. I don’t know how many re-designs I’ve done but I believe it’s somewhere in the vicinity of 7 or 8, they just don’t seem to last much longer then a year as I get bored with the look and am clearly picky on what I like. Since finding, using, and absolutely loving Wordpress chances are changes will be less frequent and the use of plugins will be far more frequent (we hope).
Why?
Simple, I enjoy it. The last year I’ve started working with Adobe Premiere and After Effects and opened up a video section showcasing the few who visit just how ridiculous our lives are on most occasions and although some of you get a little nervous about what’s put up from time to time it’s all in good humor and most people enjoy it (even if it does cost you a career).
The Future
What’s in store for the future of this website? Hey if I could tell you I would probably be playing the lottery, I honestly don’t know. Years back this website was on it’s death bed and thanks to the launch of Facebook I almost decided to stop bothering. Then came all the serious security issues Facebook was in terms of one’s identity…that alone helped me decide (and keep almost everything off Facebook) to keep this website up and strive to make it bigger then it was before and ultimately better.
The New Look
The last look I had up didn’t last to long as I found I couldn’t add plugins easily with the current layout it was designed in so I decided one night to just give her and come up with something a little more fluent. The biggest thing you’ll notice gone is the forum, I had a lot of private sound clips and videos in it but I FINALLY came to the realization after years that no one was going to use with Facebook’s wall out there. Instead I redesigned this site in hopes people would use the commenting system to compensate for the lack of a message board. Who knows, in due time it may return.
