Better late then never I suppose…but Happy New Year! If there is one thing that New Years reminds me of it’s how overyhyped and ridiculous the whole nonsense of starting a New Year really is. Every Christmas we all gather with friends and families and if we dont indulge in the time off by drinking alcoholic beverages we gorge ourselves on endless supplies of turkey, potatoes, gravy, and scrumptious deserts all while in the back of our mind we think “I’ll wait until New Years to start me resolution of eating better and being more active.” Realistically though should we need January 1st to tell us that were fat and overweight? Probably not, that jean size that jumped two to three sizes should be a better indication that you(I) need to get your(my) ass to the gym and stop eating three meals of Wendys a day!
Resolutions
Of course we cant forget New Year’s without our resolutions. While some people might decide on something a little different from the normal (if you do I’d love to hear it below) I can place a safe bet that the majority of people out there fall into the “Lose Weight”, “Drink Less” (probably an after New Years party resolution), “Quit Smoking”, “Quit Drinking”, or “Learn Something New” category. Very rarely does one fall into the resolution that actually takes some planning and patience.
For example this year I will not put any stock into anything Russian after the humiliation I suffered from seeing Team Canada blow a 3 goal lead in the third period of the gold medal game at this year’s World Junior Championship.
Or…
I will not select Steven Stamkos in my hockey pool after his humiliating penalty shot in Pittsburgh. Alright that’s a stretch but let’s face it…that was frigging hilarious. Here we have a team furious with the Oilers Linus Omark for his pointless spin-o-rama in the shootout and yet Stamkos pulls a spin-o-rama on a penalty shot weeks ago. Is it the same thing? To some sure, to me I have to say does it really matter? If the pucks crosses the line the puck crosses the line.
Moving along…
I promise to finally give Gary Bettman credit for the brilliant idea they did (who knows if it was even his idea) with allowing HBO to film “24/7, Road To The Winter Classic”. Ever since I set my eyes on the NFL network and the amazing work NFL films does I wondered why the NHL doesnt try to replicate something similar. People want to see the players in and outside the game and when you’re a plugger like me you want to see the rock star life some of these players lead.
I promise to continue to cheer for the Oilers even though Im secretly cheering for them to lose. What can I say, I want another top 3 draft pick to compliment what we’re building.
I promise to try and stop a puck in the new year. My stats will speak otherwise.
I promise to cut my hair. It’s long, it’s gross, and despite what everyone keeps telling me not to do I’m going to get rid of the apparent hockey hair. Perhaps if I was in shape it might suit me better but when you’re trying to grow hockey hair and you look like an overweight baseball player the two dont mix.
I promise to not to reveal my actual New Years Resolution. Why? Because that would ruin the fun. Some people already know but it’s apart of my recordings for Hotstickybun and should result in even lower self confidence, probably a few beat downs, and lots of self humiliation.
I promise to get in shape…CLICHE!!! But really…
I promise to drink the Dominican out of booze on Seal’s stag. This may require a team effort though.
I promise to finally get my HSB T-shirts done and ready for sale.
I promise to pick up the guitar again!
I promise to spend some of the money earned on this website to hopefully some of the people who frequent it.
with that said
I promise to finally find some people capable of writing a blog or two to help me update this website..CRIPES!
