Tales From The Suck

In the great words of Denny Lemieux “I hate it here. It make me sick. My allergy, puke every time, bleugh! Like that, puke.” Words couldn’t have been said much simpler to how I really feel about Fort McMurray, I’m sorry to the people that live there but truth be told it really really sucks. I’m not entirely sure why I hate it so much, it could be the collective grumpiness throughout the city, the ample douche bags (see Luke’s douche bag explanation), or the fact that there is only one thing to do here…work. How fun is that?

Today hasn’t changed my mind one bit. First and foremost the thing that really irks you on the way into town is highway 63. I can’t comprehend why people have to drive mach 3 on this road headed north but they do. Numerous suicide passes and I’ve even seen someone pass on the shoulder of the road because the 10 minutes he could of waited to make a legal pass was just far to long! Headed south, I get it…you’re leaving the city. But what in the hell is the rush to get back to work? No one enjoys work that much do they?

So I finally arrive into town and try to check into my hotel and my credit card isn’t being accepted. After 35 minutes of talking to Mastercard and the front desk the manager finally comes out and checks me in properly. It only took the front desk receptionist 3 trips to get the manager to help. Because of the trouble they upgraded my room to business class! Oh la la, it looks exactly the same as regular class Im sure. The only difference I may see is it has a internet hub in the room so I can use high speed…but yet they don’t provide a cat5 cable which leads me to….

Going downtown trying to find a cat5 cable. Hmm shouldn’t be to hard right? Wrong! Forget the fact that there was a Christmas Parade down Franklin street, forget the fact that the traffic situation in this city is so poorly planned, forget the fact it’s nearing the Christmas season, the thing that really pisses me off is they close at 6 pm? Really? Thankfully there are still people dumb enough to leave their wireless open.

All this in a span of little under a couple hours. So now I sit in the hotel room I didn’t think I would get watching the Oilers and JDD get pummelled against those hose bag Canucks waiting patiently to go start work. Should make for a highly boring evening, hopefully both my other teams are having much more success this evening.

I do get complimentary breakfast tomorrow and Monday but with my luck in this city I’m sure my french toast will be salted with pubic hair.

Wish me luck, I may not make it back alive or end up in jail for beating someone or something to a fine pulp…BOO!
