The Canadian Geese

Coach Carter, the bench boss, GM, President, Nazi Ruler etc… announced today the club has sent goaltender Darren Walker to the club’s Beer Hockey League affiliate, the Hythe Mustangs, on a two-week conditioning assignment.

Walker, 28, has no wins, no losses and no overtime losses this season. He has posted a stingy 0.00 goals-against average and 1.000 save-percentage in 0 games. Walker has been a healthy scratch the last 3 years and Saturday nights off ice antics sealed the deal for his reassignment following an embarrassing Sugar Bowl performance.

Rather than have Walker sit even longer between games, the Geese decided it was best to send the goaltender to the Mustangs on a two-week conditioning assignment.

Walker last played in April of 2007, the organization argues though the last time he played sober was the summer of 2003.

When asked about the situation Walker responded “My focus now is to get in some games, try not to embarrass myself in front of friends and family, and perhaps try to do the splits again without pulling a groin,” said the netminder.

“I haven’t been playing a lot but this gives me a chance to focus in on my game and perhaps remember what it’s like to play sober and not doped on ephedrine.  I had opportunities to play but was waiting for the NHL players to lockout again and perhaps become the next starting Oilers goalie, you know like how Keeanu Reeves won the superbowl or something in that movie the Replacements,” continued Walker, who would have to clear a drug test on a regular Senior league assignment.

“I’ll get there and talk to coach and see what the plans are,” said the goaltender, who had to agree to the detour because of his one-way contract. “I want to get some playing time. The Banff Cup will happen again and I want to be ready”

The Mustangs have seven games between now and Feb. 07, starting with a home game on Tuesday against Grande Prairie.

Walker, a 4-year NWJHL veteran, joined the Canadian Geese as a free agent on July 1, 2002.
