Welcome Back
Crikey it’s been along time since I even visited this website, I think it’s safe to say that I’ve neglected hotstickybun about as much as a fat person neglects a diet. Sadly not even something as simple as adding pictures seems to have been in my books of things to do. To tell you the truth since I got back from my month long escapade in Phoenix there really hasn’t been anything exciting enough to capture because it seemed the moment I stepped foot back into Canada I was blessed with having to endure -30 to -40 degree weather for a month. I may have went out for my birthday but I cant remember so it couldn’t of been that exciting could it?
I feel like I’m living in Grande Prairie again where everyday is business as usual and you find yourself stuck in a miserable routine. Wake up-make money-eat out-watch a shitty Oilers team-sleep (x5) before you hit the weekend where you oftebinge drink yourself into oblivion in one of two decent bars in town before getting shut down and passing out face first in the shower. Ok that doesn’t sound half bad, as long as the drains left open and your friends dont take pictures for the sole purpose to blackmail.
Wheres this going? Nowhere, I told you I had nothing good to say. One thing I will say is Canada kicks ass once again and it really blows having to wait another entire year to watch, what I feel, is the best hockey anyone will witness. I’ll tell you that if I was ever to sell a potential sports fan on the game of hockey I would park them in front of the World Junior Tournament with a bucket of lager and tell them to enjoy. I dont know what it is but something about the tournament captivates this country from the initial puck drop to the final buzzer, this year especially. I can’t remember seeing a game like the U.S/Canada affair on New Years Eve, I told most that it was the best game I’ve watched in recent memory…only to be taken back on that statement come Canada’s semi final thriller against Russia. Throw in a floppy Swedish goalie in the finals and a fifth consecutive gold medal and we see why hockey is god.
As great as the World Junior Tournament usually is the moment it’s over we’re sadly brought back to life having to endure the snooze fest better known as Edmonton Oilers Hockey. Having visited the bun for the first time in probably a month I see the last thing I had wrote was how much it sucked being an Oilers fan and how great it was watching the Blackhawks. Well, things haven’t changed. In fact it’s gotten even worse with the injury to Hemsky, now we have the privilege of watching that offensive sniper Liam Reddox help our top line generate nothing offensively. Throw in a struggling Sam Gagner and Robert Nilsson, a bunch of pluggers who think they can score (and make to much money doing so), and of course two fourth lines one which consists of Stortini, Strudwick, and MacIntyre and believe it or not you can see precisely why your team isnt destined for to much success let alone providing an entertaining game. Oh did I mention we have a shitty coach who continues to run a 1-2-2 defensive system knowing we have enough trouble scoring goals and continue to be one of the worst teams defensively. The early 90 Oilers may have been just as lethargic but at least their game was exciting.
You suck MacT, take my advice and quit already and while your at take your bum buddy Lowe with you…6.5 for Horcoff, both of you should stop sniffing so much glue.
Enough hockey, lets talk about what else was a real downer in December.
The Sugar Bowl. We lost. No Im not talking about the NCAA Im talking about the Edmonton UOAL team. Picture 40 different imported beer at 10% and a group of people foolish enough to think we could finish them all without getting kicked out. The competition was intense and suffice to say there was some cheating to gain an advantage (like putting fertilizer in drinks, puking the first twenty out to make room for the final twenty) but by the end of the game the real losers were the ones who dont remember anything.
Some good things:
- Philly is in the NFC championship game for the 5th time in 8 years.
- Matt two punching Jovonaski was a quick visit to glory town.
- It actually got warmer then -10!
- Girls in Bikini’s!
- Bud Light Limes
and thats it!
I promise I’ll be back, I feel like Im taking a page from Trav in the next couple weeks because I have a lot to complain about, MacT, the Oilers, computers, plastic bags, noisy neighbours (who’s noise isnt from bumping uglies), people who litter, the cold, reusable condoms, PMS, white underwear and its actual purpose, etc.
Lots of ground to cover, till next time.
