First off I apologize for my writing, it may be sloppy and at times fairly incoherent through this but I have a legitimate excuse. Alcohol. I don’t know about the rest of you but after a heavy night of drinking my brain is usually telling me “duh”. If you’re like me and feel like you just demolished a good portion of brain cells after a night of drinking then you’ll cut me some friggin slack for all the spelling mistakes, run on sentences, and grammatical errors, after all the Lloyd Lake experience just provided me with a solid 7 straight days of heavy drinking. Combine that with the week before back in Grande Prairie and years later a doctor will tell me that I have an I.Q of 48 and am what some people call mentally retarded.
There are few places that I’ve been where I can actually say that I wouldn’t mind vacationing here for 3 months or so. Spending a month in Palm Springs this past January was pretty spectacular but the city itself didn’t seem to be bred for someone who wants to still give er and party most weekends. I didn’t get to spend much time in Phoenix, only a few days but it was one of two (maybe three) places where I could consider moving/staying for an extended period of time. Anyone who knows me fairly well understands that I’m pretty laid back wanting to have as much fun as a guy possibly can. That is exactly what the attitude down south in California and Arizona came across as. Easy going, laid back, and it doesn’t hurt having the sun shining every day.
Lloyd Lake is probably as close to that lifestyle as I’ll get. The big difference is the fact that Lloyd Lake is miles away from civilization. No roads will take you there and in fact I think there are only two or three vehicles in our little subdivision. There are no phone lines and certainly no cell phone towers so the chances of hearing a phone ring are zero. Usually the area is totally peaceful…aside from this past week.
I’ve been on benders before, hell we used to live one playing hockey. Of course we always had the year end parties that ended up lasting for five days or so until everyone powered down. This past weekend was one of those moments where all of us fishing could say we were completely shattered on a seven day bender. Lately for me I’ll take a day’s break or so in that span but not this time. We partied and we even celebrated a couple birthdays (we celebrated those b’days about 2 or 3 times).
I really can’t talk much about the fishing because well…it’s fishing right? You troll, you cast, you catch fish (and we caught a fair amount of fish). Most days consisted of waking up around 9 or 10am, firing up breakfast, and having a couple beers and/or coffee and Bailys. After that it was fishing and drinking. My boat (dubbed thee party boat) spent most of its time catching the drift bullshitting doing a little jigging. Whether it was at the Stonehouse just off Jasper, catching lunkers at King Kong Boulevard, battling the Red Sea, or sitting in Tortuga we managed to consume a heavy amount of alcohol and yet still reel in a good amount of fish.
The best idea was probably when I brought in a bottle of Chartreuse (OK I think everyone can agree that it was probably the worst idea). The first night it came into play and we actually finished half the bottle, I don’t know how many shots I did but for anyone that has ever done that shit you know how sick it is. The worst part about it is when you start burping it up later on in the night cause you get that sick taste in your mouth again. Sure enough on the party boats 4am fishing trip it got the best of me and I found myself spewing out my hot dogs over the front of the boat. I think the other five of us were happy to see Cousin Cole finish off the last quarter of the bottle himself one of the final few nights in camp. Throw in a bottle of Tequila he got for his bday from the neighbors and we had a decent shooter bar going on.
Offhand I don’t know the exact numbers of how much we drank but it was getting fairly skimpy towards the end, we even had to polish off the 60 of BEEFEATER Gin. I didn’t get a chance but the other camera has a solid before and after shot of the liquor cabinet which will get posted when I get them, for now I’ve slapped up what I took on my camera for pictures. I do have about 8 videos from the week…one solid video of fishing and the rest from everyone being completely bombed. Ill have those up in the next little while.
With the past few weeks its safe to say that I am officially in detox mode and will be that way for awhile, I guess until Daymen strolls in but I suppose if anyone out there is throwing a party that I can attend Ill have a few chardonnays…what of it.
