My Eerie Emo Halloween Story

Ah yes Halloween. The one holiday where it’s completely acceptable to look as stupid as possible and be socially accepted wherever you go. In fact the stupider you look the more popular you instantly become. No matter how dumb I’ve looked Halloween is still one of my more enjoyable holidays (if you can call it that). Christmas, New Years, even birthdays are great but on most occasions those holidays get so overhyped a lot of us end up feeling disappointed the moment you realize you’re at one shitty New Year’s Party. You talk and talk and talk about it and then it costs 100 bucks for entry when you finally decide. Not Halloween though, you can buy a carton of eggs and a roll of toilet paper and still end up feeling pretty satisfied with the night’s events.

Maybe it’s the mystique of the darkness that somewhat surrounds the holiday that intrigues me a little, especially with the past couple months having been weird ones for me in terms of strange things/dreams happening to me. I imagine I’ve been watching far too many horror movies and ghost stories but it’s a little eerie hearing things in your condo at times and dreaming of friends and family dying regularly. No I’m not lying, I’ve actually told a couple people about this most notably some family members because I always thought you weren’t supposed to see yourself die in a dream, something that’s happened regularly the last 6 months.

The first incident was earlier this summer before I moved to Fort McMurry. I was having a solid nap one Sunday afternoon on the couch in the living room, it was no longer then probably 30 minutes but I appeared to be having a lucid dream. Lucid dreams are somewhat when you are aware you are dreaming or kind of having an out of body experience (that’s the easiest explanation I can give). Needless to say the 30 minute nap came to abrupt end with that feeling of a shiver being sent down your spine. I have to admit I was a little startled because what woke me up felt so surreal. Here I was in my dream lying on the couch in the exact position I had fallen asleep and, this is hard to explain, but the face of something dead woke me screaming/shrieking in my face. Needless to say I woke a little off guard with the cold shiver running through my body but after didn’t think much of it.

That was until the next week when I was asleep and dreaming about something ridiculous. I was in the middle of nowhere helping some woman find her way through the woods in the midst of winter. We had kept to the path but it had started snowing again and I just about missed a turn so I stopped her and let her go ahead me. As we started she stopped to turn around and ask me if this was the right way, the moment she turned I could hear her scream looking at something behind me…the moment I turned around here was some lunatic who ended up decapitating my head. I can remember floating above my body seeing my corpse when suddenly I woke with another chill up my spine. I always remember hearing you’re not supposed to see yourself die…like how when you’re falling from a cliff and you tend to wake up the moment before you hit the ground? The next morning having died had me a little disturbed about what it meant. It turns out it actually is a rather common occurrence. Needless to say I put that to rest after reading numerous stories of other people dying dreaming even though my decapitation seemed a little harsher than most.

And yet throughout the rest of that same week I seen numerous friends die (I won’t name names). Two friends at a gas station we’re blown to pieces, two more in a car accident, and three were involved in a boating accident where they ultimately drowned. Oh yeah I died once more myself having been stabbed at a hotel somewhere.

For the past two or three months I hadn’t noticed anymore strange dreams or occurrences…that was until today of course and really the sole reason I’m writing this strange emo blog…honestly I feel this is completely messed up and wish I could explain it as it makes no sense. The worst part about this one was it got a little personal with my family. For anyone who knows some of the health problems that have faced my family in recent years then you should know full well what I’m talking about and what happened.

To tell you the truth for someone who usually is pretty casual and laid back not letting a whole lot bother him this one has really gotten me a little out of sorts. Maybe it means absolutely nothing or maybe like I said I’ve been watching too many Halloween movies this week but you can’t help but think about it thus the reason for me to blog it…as in case you didn’t notice it’s a good way to sound like a complete moron and like you’ve been doing too much heroin. The only problem is I’m actually dumb enough to write about.
